Small Aircraft Crashes In Ikeja, Lagos

The Spokesman for the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), Tunji Oketunbi, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday afternoon.
Also, an official of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) told our correspondent that the aircraft burst into flame LASEMA also said four persons including the pilot were on board the ill-fated copter and they were all rescued alive and taken to a nearby hospital.
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) also confirmed the accident.
NEMA Zonal Coordinator for South-West, Ibrahim Farinloye, on the Agency’s official WhatsApp platform, said though the identity of the operator of the helicopter was yet unknown, those onboard were all rescued alive. First responders from NEMA, LASEMA, and investigators from the NSIB have arrived at the scene.
Tuesday’s accident occurred three years after a helicopter operated by Quorum Aviation crashed in the Opebi area of Lagos in August 2020.
The copter dropped from the sky around 12 noon and crashed into a residential building on Salvation Road in the Opebi area. The three persons onboard the copter all died.The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has denied reports circulating the internet that a plane crashed in the Ikeja area of Lagos State.
On Wednesday, several reports surfaced that a plane crashed in Ikeja, causing panic among road users.
But the airport authority, in a statement on its Twitter handle, said that the plane was being transported to a new buyer.
In the videos shared online, the wingless plane was tied and transported on a flatbed trailer.
“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria would like to inform the general public to disregard the news making the rounds on social media about an alleged crash at Ikeja Airport,” the statement read.
“The aircraft was sold by the owner to a buyer, who was taking it to its final destination.”
In June 2013, Lagos residents witnessed a similar occurrence of an aircraft being transported along the road in Mangoro.
Many social media users believed that the plane had crashed until the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) waded in to debunk the rumours that a scrap aircraft was being evacuated from the Murtala Mohammed Airport en route to Badagry.
Pandemonium broke out at Oba Akran Ikeja area of Lagos State, as a light single engine aircraft, turbo 5N-CCQ crashed on a major road and burst into flames.
The incident occurred at about 1:41pm local time, adjacent AP Filling Station, and United Bank For Africa, Oba Akran.

The source also disclosed that the aircraft was coming in for an emergency landing but hit the light pole after making the circuit.

According to the airline spokesperson, Stanley Oliseh, “Our attention has been drawn to a tweet misinforming the public that the helicopter that crashed around Oba Akran, Ikeja, today, was an Air Peace aircraft.
“This is totally untrue and misleading as we do not have helicopters and none of our aircraft was involved in any crash. Air Peace operates Boeing 777s,  Embraer 195-E2s, ERJ-145s, Dornier 328, Airbus 320s and Boeing 737s- no helicopter in our fleet.
“It is emphatically important people get their facts right before publishing. Members of the public are urged to disregard the tweet as it clearly misrepresents the Air Peace brand.”
